The Japanese Garden is available for rent after public hours only, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. weddings and other small, outdoor ceremonies April through August. The Japanese Garden is located right next to the Hayward Senior Center on North Third Street at Crescent in Hayward. The number of persons attending cannot exceed 50 and there is no alcohol, food, or beverages allowed. A Request for Rental of HARD facility form may be submitted to Reservations@HaywardRec.org or in person at the Customer Service for the Hayward Area Recreation & Park District, no less than 30 days or more than 11 months in advance. The garden is not available on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day .

District residents should be prepared to show proof of residency in order to secure the discounted resident rate. A current photo identification and utility bill will suffice. This process should take approximately 30 minutes. Any balance due must be paid in full 30 days prior to your event. Check out our facility rates and rules.
Occasionally, the district may find it necessary to reschedule, relocate, or perhaps cancel a previously approved function. In that event, the District will give as much advance notice as possible. In the event of a cancellation, the entire rental fee and all deposits will be refunded.
